The songs on our limited edition record are industrial, electronic, danceable, and dark. Both songs are inspired by a scene in Disco Mama by Tiffany Meuret. In this scene, the main character pursues her love of underground music, becoming a DJ as her cannibalistic appetite takes over:
But tonight, I’ve taken great care to find just the right song. It begins low and slow, a delicate synth melody. I’m expecting to surge into some pseudo-powerful EDM, but it never does. Instead, it ebbs like a wave, retreating to a soothing lull just when you’d expect an explosion.
The music, the vibrating bass blowing holes in my eardrums, is everything I need, which is precisely when the heat of injury radiates my entire midsections. It’s a sharp pain only caused by sharp objects, and I have little time to wonder what Lola is up to before she hits me with it again. This injury doesn’t double me over like the others, but that could be because my head is already somewhere else, hovering over the scalps of the crowd, in the rafters, like my conscious aerosolized with the music, like I’m nothing more than a molecule among the sound, and It’s perfect, I love it here. I never want to leave.
The beat of the music is like a heart palpitation, a too powerful something buried in my chest, a bomb screaming toward zero and ready to burst. It’s a palate cleanser.
The music thrums low for the moment, a dirty sounding melody tailor-made for a place like this. I am the purveyor of mood, bass drilling my will into the chests and minds of the audience. There is so much power here and I slurp it up, my body buzzes with it and I just want to break shit again but instead I sway with beat paying careful attention to the antler crown on my head. I must look spectacular.
Every shift of the lights hits my veins like a needle, what a fucking high, I love this shit, my God do I love this so much …
The set may have begun in the gutters, but it finishes in the stars. The finale song picks up after a thoughtful lull in activity—dim white lights nearing exsanguination before my last song begins, rolling into the room like wedding confetti. If you’re paying attention, you can catch the glitter on your tongue. I call it my gold song because of its shimmery 70s feel. It reminds me of a roller rink, something the girls and boys would hold hands to before their parents pick them up. The gold song makes me feel like shouting—it’s a malicious heart palpitation no one notices until it makes them cough.
About Paul Barker: Paul Ion Barker is a producer, composer, and touring musician. His extensive production and writing work with Ministry extended from 1985 through 2004. He has been involved with bringing a wide range of other musical projects into fruition: Lard, Pailhead, Revolting Cocks, Flowering Blight, USSA, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, Malekko, recently as a touring member of Puscifer, and Lead into Gold.

About Joel Shanahan: Under a variety of aliases—chiefly Golden Donna, but also Auscultation, Purpura, and now his own name—Joel Shanahan has spent the past eight years building up a formidable discography that runs both deep and wide. A tour of Shanahan’s catalog reveals hazy ambient house, vaporous new-age funk, spring-loaded electro, soot-streaked techno, daydreamy acid, and, in recent years, fusions of all the above and more.
