Cover reveal: The Rain Artist

Please welcome The Rain Artist, Moonstruck Books’ first title.

Our first book’s cover today features an incredible illustration of the novel’s 65-year-old heroine Celine Broussard. This image was created by Niceaunties, a Singaporean artist whose surreal, endearing, and sometimes absurd art is inspired by her 11 aunties, her mother, and her late grandmother. Through her use of digital media, Niceaunties empowers women by imagining an alternate reality where aunties can pursue their passions freely.

Niceaunties’ illustration of Celine perfectly resonated with author Claire Rudy Foster. Foster said, “It was breathtaking to see the world I believed existed only in my head represented in Niceaunties’ art. She has developed a style and character all her own that is as unique as my novel. It’s glamorous, gritty, disorienting, and dream-like, all at once.”

Cover designer JP Painter merged contemporary and historic images of New York, including Dutch-era maps of Manhattan that reflect the physical and temporal levels of the novel. JP’s design experience links the human capacity for imagination with the beauty of the natural world—and The Rain Artist is no exception. Preorder the book in our shop!
